About Wendy Friedman, LMFT, MPH

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with nineteen years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. My work focuses on relationship issues, grief, family conflict, intimacy, life transitions, and helping people navigate difficult changes in their relationships and families.

I take a non-judgmental, experiential approach to therapy. I listen carefully, work to understand each person’s individual needs, and draw from different therapeutic approaches to help clients move toward their goals.

I have particular experience working with couples and with people experiencing grief and loss. Whether you’re struggling in a relationship, adjusting to a major life change, or trying to find a way forward after a loss, therapy can provide a place to understand what you’re experiencing and begin creating meaningful change.

Availability: I provide in-person therapy through Friedman Family Therapy in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

My Specialties

My Approach

I believe therapy should respond to the needs of the individual, couple, or family rather than rely on one approach for everyone. My work is non-judgmental and experiential, with an emphasis on listening carefully, building connection, and understanding what each person needs from therapy.

I have extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and additional training in the Gottman Method and Encountered-Centered Therapy. My clinical work also draws from Couples Transformation Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, CBT, Bowen Family Systems Theory, and Structural Family Therapy.

With couples, my goal is to help partners better understand the relationship patterns creating distance, conflict, or difficulty with intimacy and find more effective ways to connect.

I also have extensive experience supporting people through bereavement. Grief is an incredibly difficult life passage, and my work helps people honor what they have lost while finding ways to move forward and create meaningful lives.

My Background

My training began in Public Health at Yale University School of Medicine, where I was first introduced to the emerging field of Family Therapy. Years later, I studied Family Therapy at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and completed my clinical training at The Council For Relationships.

For many years, I was associated with Jewish Community Services of South Florida, where I worked with individuals, couples, and families experiencing a wide range of challenges.

During my time there, I also served as a bereavement counselor and facilitated weekly bereavement groups. Through that work, I gained extensive experience helping people cope with significant loss, honor their grief, and begin creating meaningful lives after loss.

Testimonials

“Working with Wendy has been incredibly valuable for us. One of the things she does best is make sure we both feel heard, while helping us translate what we're feeling in a way that the other person can actually understand and empathize with. That's made a real difference in how we communicate through difficult conversations.

She's also very involved in the process. She gives us relevant resources, assigns homework when it makes sense, and keeps us accountable so we're actually working on things between sessions. She's very proficient in different techniques and isn't afraid to try different approaches depending on what we're dealing with.

She also shares relevant personal experiences when they're helpful, which has helped ground some of what we're going through and given us different ways of looking at things.

Most importantly, she's very balanced and has created a safe space for both of us. Some sessions can obviously be difficult, but she's very good at guiding us through those moments and lightening the mood when appropriate.

She's easily the most involved and committed therapist we've worked with. You can tell she genuinely wants to help and will go above and beyond to help us make progress. I would highly recommend her to any couple looking for someone who is actually invested in helping them improve their relationship.”

“I was 18 when I married my husband. Needless to say, after 60 years of marriage, my grief was profound and therapy was suggested. How lucky I was to join a group led by Wendy Friedman!

When people were having a difficult time of feeling down, Wendy never failed to step in with words of compassion that were encouraging and helpful. Her professionalism and charisma helped to guide me, and the group, that life still had purpose and promise.”
